Product Spotlight: Thermostat Wire
In June 2020, Copperweld submitted a proposal to Standards Technical Panel STP-0013 with the intention of adding Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) to UL 13 — the standard for power-limited circuit cables. This would define CCA as a viable conductor option for Class 2, 150V-rated HVAC/Thermostat cable applications.

Product Spotlight:
CCS 40% for Bonding & Grounding
Copperweld offers a line of solid and stranded Copperweld Grounding Electrode Conductors (GECs) for use in homes and buildings. A Copperweld GEC is engineered using wire made with Copper-Clad Steel 40% (CCS40), a proven material that our nation’s utilities have used for grounding and bonding for a century.

NEMA Bulletin:
The Truth About CCA
CCA conductors are firmly referenced in the NEC as one of three conductor materials for use in 600V-2000V electrical circuits. NEMA Bulletin No. 122 highlights the most important code references for CCA.

ABA member Copperweld celebrates 107 years!
Few companies in the electrical industry can claim a history as long and heralded as Copperweld. This speaks not only to the endurance of copper bimetals, but also to Copperweld’s commitment to innovation and reliability.

The Comeback Kid: Copper-clad Aluminum Returns as an Alternative
by Stephen Carr – Electrical Contractor Magazine
From time to time, the ABA highlights articles from the industry that represent bimetals and their particular applications. Here is an example of a bimetal being used as an electrical conductor for residential wiring applications. The article was published in Electrical Contractor Magazine which is a major trade journal for the electrical industry.

Ground Breaking Changes to the NEC Regarding Bimetals
Due to research conducted by Westmoreland Metallurgical Laboratories, Copper Clad Aluminum (CCA) and Copper were proven to be similar metals on the galvanic scale. As a result, the NEC changed Section 110.14 to allow CCA and Cu conductors to terminate together in the same circuit.

CONDUSAL Awarded ABA's Highest Honor
The American Bimetallic Association would like to recognize the pioneering efforts of Condusal, SA, from the nation of El Salvador. Condusal is a family-owned electrical wire and cable manufacturer that recently completed 25 years in business.

ABA Awarded Code Panel Membership by the NFPA
The American Bimetallic Association is proud to have as its representatives the two newest members of Code Making Panel 6 of the National Electrical Code (NEC) of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Mr. Peter Graser and Mr. Rodrigo O’Byrne.
